That&#8217;s the format of the valve itself. What actually varies is the block or housing the cartridge screws into: it determines how the valve connects to the rest of the system, which extra ports are available, and how it&#8217;s mounted mechanically. The right question to ask is therefore &#8220;which block should the valve sit in?&#8221; or &#8220;how should the block be connected?&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>The most common mounting types<\/h2>\n<p>Sun Hydraulics cartridge valves fit five main types of blocks:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>In-line (pipe-mounted) blocks<\/strong> \u2013 connect directly into the pipeline with threaded ports (G1\/4&#8243;\u2013G1 1\/4&#8243; and up). Most common for standalone functions that aren&#8217;t part of a cetop stack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sandwich blocks<\/strong> \u2013 mounted between a control valve (e.g. a cetop directional valve) and the mounting plate\/power unit. Common for load holding, check valves, flow control and pressure control in a stack.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Banjo-mounted blocks<\/strong> \u2013 connected with a banjo fitting, often in space-constrained applications.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Motor-mounted blocks<\/strong> \u2013 mounted directly on a hydraulic motor, common for load holding valves in motor circuits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Special blocks\/manifolds<\/strong> \u2013 custom blocks with multiple cavities and functions integrated into a single unit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sandwich blocks: BBA or BJA?<\/h2>\n<p>Sandwich blocks for the T-2A cavity (and the equivalent in other sizes) often come in two build heights, and the difference is easy to miss:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>BBA\/T (49.3 mm)<\/strong> \u2013 simple connection, standard block with no extra ports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>BJA\/T (63.2 mm)<\/strong> \u2013 has two extra ports, X and Y, for pilot-operating a directional valve mounted on top of the stack. Chosen when the directional valve needs to be piloted hydraulically through the block. The taller build height simply makes room for the X\/Y channels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The same principle \u2013 taller build height = extra X\/Y ports \u2013 applies to other cavity sizes (e.g. the BKA\/BLA series). If your directional valve needs pilot operation through the block, the BJA version is the right choice; otherwise BBA is enough.<\/p>\n<h2>Mounting plates for sandwich stacks<\/h2>\n<p>A sandwich stack is always built on top of a mounting plate (also called a cetop plate, subplate or stack plate), which is in turn mounted on the power unit. Hydnet&#8217;s mounting plates carry the prefix HN followed by a size \u2013 HN06 for NG6\/Cetop 3, HN10 for NG10\/Cetop 5. The rest of the model code describes the details: number of stations, port size, and where the gauge ports sit (e.g. HN06-S-G1\/2&#8243;-MAB-WC = NG6, single station, G1\/2&#8243; ports, gauge ports at A and B). Single-station plates come with side or bottom ports; multi-station plates connect several valves in a row.<\/p>\n<h2>Cavity size and flow<\/h2>\n<p>The cavity (T-11A, T-2A, T-17A, T-19A and so on) is the physical bore machined into the block that the cartridge screws into, and it determines how much flow the valve can handle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>T-11A \u2248 up to 60 lpm (15 gpm)<\/li>\n<li>T-2A \u2248 120 lpm (30 gpm)<\/li>\n<li>T-17A \u2248 240 lpm (60 gpm)<\/li>\n<li>T-19A \u2248 480 lpm (120 gpm)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The block must have the correct cavity machined for the cartridge you&#8217;ve chosen \u2013 too small a cavity needlessly restricts flow, too large makes for a bulkier and more expensive solution than necessary.<\/p>\n<h2>What to consider when selecting<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Port connection\/thread<\/strong> \u2013 check that the block&#8217;s port connection (BSP\/G thread, SAE) matches your installation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gauge ports<\/strong> \u2013 do you need to measure pressure during operation? Choose a block with gauge ports (Minimess) in the right position.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Extra pilot ports<\/strong> \u2013 does a directional valve need to be piloted hydraulically through the block, as in the BJA case above? Make sure the block has the X\/Y ports.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Physical interchangeability<\/strong> \u2013 in most frame sizes, counterbalance, load holding and pilot-operated check valve cartridges are physically interchangeable in the same cavity, making it easy to change function later without new manifold machining.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Standard or custom<\/strong> \u2013 ready-made standard blocks cover most functions; a custom manifold is a really good sollution when you want to choose port configurations and integrate several integrated functions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not sure which block suits your cartridge valve?
